Sonnet from NY
Poem by Billy Boy Burger
All the way with Obama
He is as poised as the Dali Lama
Never over reacts, first uses a comma
Makes women’s rights the real drama
Redistribute wealth- give the poor less trauma
I can always become a gentle ‘farmer’
Won’t he make us all ‘calma’….

Leader
I have seen your face,
In so much color: your blue, your white, and your red.
The same colors as our flag, not so saturated, but
A tone that’s down to earth.
I have seen your face,
Stretched out on bridges,
With eyes that watch over America’s greatest rivers,
Restoring faith in the farmer’s soil.
I have seen your face,
On many peoples’ chest- you are the most unique of trademarks.
These people strut past me in New York city,
Borrowing your dignity.
I have seen your face,
On the bumpers of Suburbans,
Planted in the lawns of front yards, and
Framed and hung against living room walls while a family watches your face on TV.
I have seen your face,
At a fancy party, but your weren’t their.
Your face was of red, white, and blue diamonds; studded
On the dress of a young black woman.
I have seen your face,
In a crowd of millions of cheering people,
You, stand in the center while cameras and helicopters swarm,
Speaking to All of US.
